Paper and Plastic.... DAK against 8th Army - Africa 1942/1943
I added soldiers. and anti tank canons. And old paper building. After few days of collecting, fixing and painting my old/new game became as "complete" game.
DAK (Deutsches Africakorps) against 8th Army. Germans / Italians against British and Coalitions.
I used a table in hotel room during winter vacation....Dimmension 120 cm x 60 cm.
My Troops move with Movement Marker which help in changing unit movement on field. Simple place Marker on front...
And move forward trying to have contact with Marker. So I can move right forward
Left forward
Or left/right side.. of course any direction around movement marker can be done.
German troops used rifle, machine guns, and grenades (which is used to attack buildings and tanks and enemy troops. On left you can see German Team with grenade and Infantry soldier. Dangerous team.
Wooden sticks with some length explain how far they can shoot, throw grenade.
Also you can see how troops move.
Here you can see how far we can throw granade or shoot to enemy team. BUT - you can't do both at once. Or attack with grenade or with rifle.
INFANTRY to INFANTRY shooting phase
Step 1 —throw dice who start first: Scores—1/3/5— DAK, 2/4/6—8th ARMY
Step 2— player who shoot first, throw dice:
1. Withdrawal, 2 movement markers - move Unit back.
Enemy Unit must withdrawal - direction of movement can be decided by opponent.
2. Enemy lost two (2) points
3. Enemy lost three (3) points
4. Enemy lost, gave up (remove from battlefield)
5. Enemy grounded with barrage fire (can’t move and fire two movement phases).
6. Withdrawal 1 movement marker and lost two (2) points.
If points are equal resistance points - unit also must be removed from battlefield.
British troops used PIAT antitank grenade launcher. I know...it is not that time. But I have no British soldiers with grenades. So German have grenades, British has PIAT. Below you can see Panzerjager I tank, made from paper of course.
British troops used Light Tank Mk II Tetrarch with 40 mm canon and 8 points (defense points which during battle are going down depend from German shoots). Each Team has letter ADC, etc.. which help with Target selection token. Every tank and unit has own wooden target selector. helps whe you have multiple hits against each other.
German has also Panzer III tank with 50 mm canon. Defense strength of that tank is 12 points. Defense strength is under some research...
To move tank simple use Movement Marker on movement plate where we have range of movement. Similar to paper tank war.
Each tank and team has quick made target selector token.
German units with tanks, target selector markers and shooting range wooden sticks. As a sample, started test game.
And British units with Mathilda II tank, M3 Stuart and Light Tank Tetrarch.
Sample of end of game where British won battle..
All was tested, movement, range of fire, rules, etc... it is just a beginning
German use also 40 mm PAK
Target selection phase, where you can measure distance, select who shooting to which target.
Middle part of game. Close combat. You can see multiple targets selected. Shooting phase is simple throwing dice and who shoot first, then each by each. Looks complicate but many shoots are damaging troops so quicly - then some targets selector are not valid.
When Team is in unit and there is a wall with window you can shoot from building to other enemy team or tank (if you have grenade). But if tank or other units want to shoot that team in building player must throw dice - if result is higher then 3 building doesn't provide any protection. 3 and below - walls protected unit inside.
When team with grenade is in building they are dangerous for tanks... German destroyed British Light Tank...
HIT tank... need to explain how we fight... Panzerjager I tank has Armor with 8 points. And player who throw six - per my rules it is damage - 8 points.
In my first version I found that all distances between tanks, soldiers for fight purpose are too short. My new version has extended range, similar to Paper Tank game.
In new game edition I did some modifications. Germann troops had red markers and British troops green ones
So the troops looks more visible
Also each tanks has distance sticks with short/lomg distance selection (red is long distance), In short distance tanks has more damage points when they hit opponent.
Here we can see Panzerjagger II tank shooting to Stuart tank - who can't shoot back because of 37mm canon range and Tetrarch tank who has no issues with aim German tank (it has 2 pounder canon).
Two tanks shoot to each other. You can see target selector markers which allow to control multiple shoots.
After few months game is back on table.
British troops with few tank commanders in turret. Also I added antitank canon. So far have 37 mm but I have also 40 mm (2 pounder) on the way.
Sample of distance stick 37 mm vs. 40 mm (called "two pounder") on Matilda II tank. Distance stick has red part. That is long distance. When you want to shoot to Infantry or Building you must be short distance. Also Matilda II tank has strong front armor so you can't shoot from German tanks long distance. You can damage track only when you shoot long distance from front.
Different in shooting distances for each tank.
Sample of Italian Semovente 47mm canon range has no limitation long/short. Attack Matilda from side.
British tanks. Matilda II, Stuart, Tetrach.. all paper. Scale 1:72
German. Two P.III, two Panzerjager I and three Italian tanks. Carro Armato - 20 mm (two tanks) and one Semovente 47 mm.
Distance sticks for each tank.
Infantry - One team can attack tanks and second Infantry
British has PIAT Antitank Launcher. German units used grenades.
I have added also PAK 75 mm and PAK 40 mm for German troops.
British has more Infantry but so far only one 37 mm antitank canon.
Sample of game with Davit. After 20 minutes we had to stop, because we found differences in some rules. And now we are going to play again.
I started to use dice with damage results. Here you can see Stuart tank hit and lost 8 from 10 of his points.
Sample of move backwards. Very short move
Target Selector markers for each tank or Infantry.
I had to finish that battle because I had only one dice - for tanks damage and had to build other dices for Infantry, grenades, PIAT, etc. Rules works fine and David is happy so far...
