Paper Airplanes - Spitfire vs. ME-109.
Welcome back
Let me present my new (old concept) game with WW2, scale 1:144 paper airplanes.
My German and British fleet has four Supermarine Spitfire planes and four ME-109.
All planes are on 3 x 3 cm stand with altitude sticks from one to seven. Both Airplanes has special movement plates with all maneuvers include dive, claim up, turn left and right. I decide to made Spitfire 15% faster. Also Spitfire can better turn right then German ME-109, but summary both planes are very similar.
So plane can't dive and turn same time. ME-109 can faster dive vs. Spitfire and has little longer firing range.
German was first to move and like you can see he flew straight and attack Spitfire from lower altitude. Next his move must me claim UP. So I put UP token which inform player that after shooting when he will do Movement Phase - he must claim 1 or 2 ALT.
And ME-109 player picked MISSED token with two counter steps. Step 1 - dive down two ALT and fly straight. I am going to create cards next time. So Spitfire run away...
ME-109 F-4 is faster then MK.1. I am during business trip so I was able to build MK.1 instead Mk. V and tomorrow will try both planes against each other.

Flight Console for Spitfire and ME-109.
S - Fly Straight
UP - Fly up
DN - Fly Down
L - Turn Left (L)
R - Turn Right (R)
TL - Traverse left (Straight with move left side)
TR - Traverse Right
Spitfire can Turn Right better than ME-109
ME-109 can dive/claim maximum two altitude, but Spitfire can dive only one (carburetor engine didn't allow Spitfire to dive down because of cut off fuel). But Spitfire could turn right better than Messerschmitt 109.
I gave David class about how to flight and he catch rules pretty fast.
Sample of flight TR - Traverse Right
Plane moved
Here you can see firing distance for both planes. There is small difference because ME-109 had 20mm canon. Below two type of damage tokens.
When ME-19 shoot to Spitfire, player have to pick up one of the token with British symbol (sorry..that are my old token from WW1...need to build WW2 ones).
Not simple to shoot down planes. When player will select some of them he will find mostly..missed with one or two counter moves. I checked that few times with David and idea works fine...
When Spitfire player shoot to ME-109 he has set of token which are little bit different then British one.
The big token with number (5) is my playing field. I have six tokens on each corner which create field. When you throw dice - you get number from 1 to 6 - and you start flying from that corner (direction).
When you fly on lower altitude vs. enemy plane but you are in firing range, you can still shoot but next move MUST be claim up. I build token UP and DN to remember next move. Here you have sample when Spitfire is lower (only one altitude) attack ME-109.
Here you have reverse situation where ME-109 attack Spitfire from higher altitude - but next move must be dive one down.
Basic kit. Stand, Shooting range marker and Flight Console. Which I can build for anyone who will be interested to play.
When you create field with direction token I have also The Sun - in that case player can't attack enemy aircraft straight to sun (both planes are in straight line to sun). Location of sun - dice decide.
So when you have six token on table, sun location each player must picked (dice again) atltitude for start. In my game - Spitfire must start from ALT 1.
After Altitude selection we need to picked direction from Spitfire join battle. Here you can see number 3
German player selected direction number 6 and has Sun behind
Altitude will be 2
And game started. Distance between planes is about 1m.
German move first. To fly straight follow S (Straight) markers on each side of flying console. S is located on both side of Flight Console so plane can move straight or with small traverse. You can select start point on left/right side fly to S position straight or other side of Flying Console.
German plane flew straight and clime up. Maximum can claim two Altitude.
British Spitfire also clime up straight
And planes did first move. Selection who first - 1/3/5 - German, 2/4/6 - British
British move first. When you want to fly straight with traverse use RT markers on console (Right Traverse).
German want to turn Left (follow L on Console)
And Left turn done
Again both planes are close to eachother.
And ME-109 player picked MISSED token with two counter steps. Step 1 - dive down two ALT and fly straight. I am going to create cards next time. So Spitfire run away...
Dive step (counter move not counter to Movement Phase)
And fly straight step (S).
German start again first. And he must fly one Altitude down.
Next phase - at last Spitfire start...
He decide turn left to find some space to claim and turn back..
Spitfire move done
German player decide to turn left as well
Move done
Looks like it was bad idea so Spitfire (first move) - decide to turn Right
Move done
ME-109 move and checked distance to shoot..small luck... was close...
DAMN... German start move phase first. Clear situation. He is going to attack.
Player move his plane forward and is able to fire.
Missed again with counter move - FLY STRAIGHT. Spitfire do counter move and run away again.
So Spitfire flew with small traverse
Now British start
Trying to turn right (TR on Console). Very trying to..
But ME-109 gently turn right and found exactly way to shoot Spitfire again.
Picked token was - MISSED fly down two ALT.. because I was altitude ONE, Spitfire crashed.
And GAME OVER
Plane I bought on www.ecardmodel.com for 1 USD each. They are scaled 1:100 but printed 69%.
I got 1:144 models. Took me less then hour to build.
Next game will use two against two. And few clouds on different altitude.
Pair of Supermarine Spitfire MK.1, ready to play.
Pair of ME-109E from Battle of England also ready to play.
I have addes new ME-109 F-4 version and new Flight Console. I review most of the parameters and Me-109 F4 can fly faster on Altitude 5/6 and also can do Split S and Immelman Turn.
Spitfire MK. 1 can do Immelman Turn, but because of Carburator in engine - can't do Split S.ME-109 F-4 is faster then MK.1. I am during business trip so I was able to build MK.1 instead Mk. V and tomorrow will try both planes against each other.
