Paper Tanks Battle - Another battle with new tanks. Added Target Selector token

At last I found some time to get table and check how new tanks are good on field.


I am again represent Russian Army.
David testing King Tiger and Ferdinand tank. These tanks had front armor protected from T-34 long distance shoot, so only 85 mm or above can be used by Russian tanks.



I finished also few new buildings and hope game slowly looks interesting.

 For sure roads need to be wide enough because right now it can fit one tank - if it's hit can block whole movement and it is not so easy to drive reverse gear. Takes simple time.


Target Selector tokens are ready with Round Number tokens so let's looks how useful the are in multiple fights (shooting) scenario.

German Army has:

- two Panzer IV with 75 mm canon.They can move one mounting plate on terrain and one and half on road.
- one STUG.III with 75 mm canon. Movement same as Panzer IV. Low profile tank. Good for urban warfare.
- one Ferdinand with 88 FLAK. Move slow one mounting plate on terrain and one plate on road. His front armor can't be hit from T-34/76 with long distance.
- two Tiger I tanks with 88 mm canon. Move one plate mounting plate on terrain and one mounting plate on road. His front armor can't be hit from T-34/76 with long distance.
- two King Tiger II tanks with 88 mm canon. Move one mounting plate on terrain and one mounting plate on road. His front armor can't be hit from T-34/76 with long distance.
- two Panther tanks with 75 mm canon. Move one mounting plate on terrain and two mounting plates on road. Fastest German tanks. His front armor can't be hit from T-34/76 with long distance.

Russian T-34/76 tanks need to drive fast and use terrain to attack tanks from side or rear. Or simple drive close enough (wooden stick has different colors to separate short from long distance).

I am going to check real speed values of each tank and find out some advance rules for future reference. Also thinking about weather token (rain / sunny / fog  and day / nigh which create game more interesting especially for poor T-34 tanks...which can use fog and rain and drive  close enough...but that will be future).

Also still use old wooden sticks with canon range. Thinking about review length of each canon.

Nice fire power in hands of 10/11 years old boy who know them well...

Right flank has more power... two King Tiger tanks, Ferdinand, Panzer IV and STUG.III


Russian troops contains two groups. Right and left flank. Contains of:

- one IS-2 with 122 mm canon. Can move one mounting plate on terrain and one on road. His front armor can't be hit from captured T-34/76 and Panzer IV, STUG with long distance. So far one tank made.
- one SU-152. Can move one mounting plate on terrain and one on road. His front armor can't be hit from T-34/76 (German of course) and Panzer IV, STUG.III with long distance.
- four T-34/76. Can move one mounting plate on terrain and road two mount plates. Reverse gear two red. So it is fastest tank in whole collection. 
- two T-34/85. Can move same as 76 mm version.
- one KW-1. Can move one mounting plate plate on terrain and one and half on road. His front armor can't be hit from German T-34/76 and Panzer.IV and STUG with long distance.
- one SU-100 tank with 100 mm canon which is similar to 88 mm and hope to be good enough against German tanks with long distance. It can move one mounting plate on terrain and one and half mounting plate on road.
- and gift from USA....Sherman with 76 mm canon. Maybe it is not good tank (Russian lost them in Poland 1944/45 in huge amount during so called "second battle of Kursk" North of Warsaw) but it has good canon. It can move one mounting plate on terrain and one and half mounting plate on road.

Phase I - Movement. Russian started. With speed per terrain (one mounting plate)


Left flank has small hill to reach with building on top. Right flank has narrow road and town. I am going to flank enemy tanks.

Phase I - Movement. German move after Russian
 Somehow German side has more roads.... narrow but when he get to that road his tanks can speed up..
Since no one could select any targets Phase I - Movement is repeated. And again - per dice result, Russian troops moved first.

Movement Phase - David started


He is trying get as fast he can to road


 When his Panther tanks get to road he can drive two mount plates. Double his tank speed. 
Especially Panthers.


On his left flank he reach road too and you can see how he move his Tiger I on road. One and half mounting plate.


Since Panther tanks had many technical problems I am going to add Malfunction Factor before player move that tanks. He simple throw dice and per result - or engine broken for that round or - can drive. But that will be future... so far they are "perfect" technical shape.

Movement Phase - Russian part. Left flank slowly drove to town


 IS-2 following T-34 to reach road and speed up. Somehow I found that SU-152 is very slow. By mistake instead use front armor push him on front I decide to use as a back up.
Not so effective in long distance combat...most probably became "common" destroyed tank before he get to action.

I need to build few SU-85 tanks to have at least equal chances in combat.

 

 On left flank T-34/76 slowly reach hill and SU-100 together with T-34/85 drive straight to meet 
his first target.

At last after three Movement Phases we get to the point where first tanks are able to shoot. Both King Tiger II and T-35/85 get close to have his Target Selection Phase. My SU-100 is beyond that range..

 On Right Flank White Tiger found his T-34/76 as target.
 Tiger I is going to shoot above walls. Clear shoot. Long distance.

 So now it is time to use Target Selectors. 
I could select which target I am going to hit on which round from what tank. And it works perfect.
 Here you can see how T-34/85 selected his target with Round Number.
 When David used his Target Selector token and picked my tank with same Round Number.
 Because no other Russian tanks could find his targets David selected second target 
and will shoot second round.

Shooting Phase - German throw dice with higher number and token picked by him.Ricochet.
 So I fired back as Round One... and I picked Missed token.

Both of us can use Smoke Grenades - I can select two, David - One. So if we want it - we can create smoke barrier and mask our position during next Movement Phase/Target Selection/Shooting.
White Tiger shoot Round Two to my T-34/76 and chosen token - Engine hit. Still in good shape but speed of that tank on road is decrease by half - to one plate...still fast enough to try drive closer and get his 76 mm canon range. Engine hit doesn't affect on reverse move - only forward.
 On right you can see White Tiger and whole distance to my T-34/76. So Shooting Phase is finished and we have to start Movement Phase... more fight coming...

Movement Phase - Russian starts. Left flank we see one T-34/85 and KW-1 trying to pass road. My SU-152 stuck because of damaged T-34/76 and move reverse to find way to join battle..
Right flank - one T-34/76 reach hill and slowly Sherman follow T-34.

 During last Shooting Phase my T-34 who was under heavy fire from three tanks throw smoke grenades who gave him chance to survive that round... can't shoot because my turret and canon fix are numbers 4 or 1....I throw 3 so still can't fire.

 Russian advance. KW-1 found something interesting between buildings. IS-2 get to main field...at last... and poor SU-152 still in reverse mode trying to follow IS-2 road.
 Left flank - I advance with all my tanks and hope to have some targets.
 I tried to hide T-34/76 and push Sherman with long range 76 mm canon.
Target Selection Phase - as soon smoke grenade were removed 
White Tiger Aim his gun again to that target.

In Target Selection Phase David found his Ferdinand can't hit any tanks.
 But King Tiger has a clean shoot.
 On right flank KW-1 ans Panther found exact match against each other.
 Target selectors cover King Tiger and T-34/85.
 Round One and Two - two my tanks against one King Tiger. If you remember that tank already was missed two times from any damage. Real lucky tank.

 Grey Panther found on top of the hill T-34/76. I was hope to hide but when David aim with wooden stick I found clear shoot!
 And Target Selector with round number landed near his target.
 Target selection phase. In town KW-1 and Panther selected target and round number.
Shooting Phase. 
I shoot first as a round I but... I hit Ricochet with Fire Back option so luck King Tiger respond fire to my tank...Fire Back (red arrow on token allow to shoot back and that shoot is not counted to his primary target selection. So many times tanks can shoot two times in their shooting phase).
 Luck is in boy hand - with option fire back - he picked Tank destroyed. So King Tiger survived again and was able to destroy Russian tank. Real luck.
Because it was Fire Back token and during that phase he destroyed my tank - he could select another target and shift his fire to another Target. Because he had already selected target and luckily - he destroyed it during fire back token selection.
The only difference is - he can't shoot right now - so Round number token was selected as Round IV.
Fire back is not counted as a primary shoot so in that case his tank can shoot twice.

Another round (number 2)  - SU-100 shoot first to King Tiger - again.. Ricochet with smoke grenade. Again - King Tiger survived. Almost impossible...but it happened..
Round 3 - Panther tank hit first KW-1 engine.
Then Grey Panther tank shoot to my T-34/76 and again chosen token was - Tank Destroyed.
I have luck too and my KW-1 selected - Tank Destroyed token.

 Movement Phase - Russian move first.  IS-2 slowly pass broken T-34 and poor and slow SU-152 still trying to find his way to fight. Next time will push that tank as first. His front armor protect SU-152 from PIV and Stug..so hope to have some luck next battle.
 German move - Panther pass his damage tank.
Target Selection Phase. Ferdinand and Panther aim to Josef Stalin Two tank. 
Looks like it was a bad idea to join center field without support...
 German T-34 selected my T-34/85 as another round. IS-2 picked King Tiger tank.
 And...Shooting phase. 
German shoot first and David picked Tank Destroyed token.
 And IS-2 tank..first his combat mission exploded in flames. Because he has also some target... White King Tiger II - who survived another time.

 Another round was duel between German T-34 and my KW-1. German shoot first...Ricochet.. When I shoot - I hit his turret and canon..so he can't shoot now.

Movement Phase - German move all their tank from line of fire.
 King Tiger move together with Ferdinand trying to hide from my very last tank fire.
 He found that second King Tiger can hit my KW-1 tank who can't run away...engine and location.
 I could not escape.
 Russian attack again. Sherman drove forward and SU-100 with T-34/76 move one plate forward.
 Target Selection Phase. Round 1 - SU-100 tank aim (again...) King Tiger. But not in same round...cross fire. David found four targets... so SU-100 will be last his target.
 Sherman found grey Panther in range of his canon.
 My tank was selected by Panzer IV tank. 
David T-34 with two damages hide to next phase.
 So I picked from my T-34/76 that Panzer IV.
Incredible...again... Instead of any damages I selected Ricochet token.
My SU-100 is in trouble.
 German Tiger hit second time KW-1 engine.
That mean - if tank is hit twice same damage token - it is destroyed.
 Sherman shoot and destroyed Panther tank.
 Interesting fight between two tanks. First shoot - both sides got missed and ricochet include fire back - then German shoot with Ricochet and I could shoot three smoke grenades. I hit tank track and he could not drive.
 Destroyed KW-1 tank who had two Engine Hits.
Two same type of hits such turret or engine - cause tank to be destroyed. 
 King Tiger missed my tank as well...

Movement Phase - my tanks drive forward against Lucky Tiger II and Ferdinand.

 My very last T-34/85 advance to hit Panzer IV tank.

 During target Selection Phase German selected their targets.
 SU-100 could not aim King Tiger because he was hide after wall - but at least he was able to track down Panzer IV which "crawl" at the end of German formation.
 Round One - I shoot first and Panzer IV lost turret with canon. he can't shoot until he fix it.
 And again...Sherman in round two shoot to King Tiger... and as usually..ricochet.
 They shoot my lonely Sherman from two sides. Since it has already engine hit - second engine hit destroyed my Sherman. T-34 was hit again... engine...turret..
 Movement Phase - both German tanks turn and trying to be ready for my T-34/85.
 With damaged engine and drive backward - Panzer IV is unable to turn his turret against my tank.
 He is too close trees.
 At least I was able to select my target - German T-34.
 Ferdinand tank selected another T-34/76 tank.
 In Shooting phase I hit first and he lost tank track - can't move.
 Ferdinand tank hit again engine and tank catch fire. Two engine hits - tank destroyed.
 With that close distance I am again selected Ricochet token.
 In movement phase my SU-100 turn and T-34 tried to reach any target. 
Short distance - can shoot front armor!
 Panzer IV shoot smoke grenades and I drove forward and attack King Tiger.
 King Tiger selected my tank as well as target.
 Few rounds...My SU-100 attack T-34 (German of course). Second T-34 attacked Ferdinand.

 Result of that shooting phase - my T-34 lost turret and German tank track. I can't shoot!

 King Tiger decide to shoot far distance to SU-152 who at last drove to battlefield...but damage token was Missed with three smoke grenades...
 AT last my SU-100 tank did some serious hit... German lost T-34.
 With that short distance...both tanks missed and Ferdinand shoot one smoke grenade so next phase can't hit him from my tank.


 During movement phase each player can try to fix all damages. 
Like in that situation. David fix his Panzer IV turret and his tank became fully operational.

 I was unable to fix my turret and became sitting duck for King Tiger and STUG. III

 White Tiger move and found straight line to SU-100.
 David against Goliath... My T-34/76 short distance try to penetrate King Tiger. If you look past that damn German tank was hit so many times with ricochet...so it is hard to believe it.
 SU-152 trying to drive forward. That tank is not good for tank to tank combat.
Need to build few IS-2 tanks or SU-85..
 Slowly going to the end. David shoot first and destroyed my last T-34/85 tank.
 I missed White Tiger from my SU-100.
 He missed this time... and I throw smoke grenades.
 King Tiger shoot first and from that distance...lucky David selected Tank Destroyed token.
 Again. German troops won that episode.
Target Selector passed exam and help player to count rounds and hits. Maybe I might need to review distance to shoot for each model. But I had a fun with David again. Whole episode took about one hour. With brakes..

Did some B/W conversion...looks pretty cool so next time will do more...
